*Layers of INDIE FOLK with subtle JAZZ WHISPERS*
WELCOME to the NANCY KELLY MUSIC website and thank you for stopping by!
I've anticipated a few questions you may have and I'll do my best to answer them.
What's my music style or genre? The short answer is 2 parts folk with 1 part jazz and 1 part classical.
Who do I sound like? Hints of Carole King, Natalie Merchant and Norah Jones.

Here's a more picturesque explanation to the genre question:
Imagine yourself in a room with an open window that overlooks a fragrant stone-walled garden next to a beautiful field of green. Every-so-often a whisp of a breeze wafts through and stirs the sultry air. Unexpectedly, a monarch butterfly spirals an unseen path and finally lands, making itself at home on the book you are reading in your comfy easy chair.
The window reflects the type of songs I write: dependable, honest, mostly in the folk-song style. The breeze and butterfly represent the jazz and classical influences that find their way into my music from time to time. Since I play the piano, that would have to do with chord structure, breezy beats and haunting melody lines. This is the inevitable outcome of a little hippy girl who bartered piano lessons from a seasoned jazz man (I cleaned his house because his wife was ill), but also studied at a classical conservatory: the mingled mix that is ultimately me!
